Why is there Bitcoin Cash in my Coinbase account?

I recently noticed that there is Bitcoin Cash in my Coinbase account. Why is that? I thought I only had Bitcoin. Can someone explain why I have Bitcoin Cash in my Coinbase account?

- Dec 18, 2021 · 3 years agoIt's possible that you received Bitcoin Cash as a result of a hard fork in the Bitcoin blockchain. When a hard fork occurs, a new cryptocurrency is created, and if you held Bitcoin at the time of the fork, you would also receive an equal amount of the new cryptocurrency. In this case, Bitcoin Cash is the result of a hard fork that occurred in August 2017. So, if you had Bitcoin in your Coinbase account before that date, you would have received an equivalent amount of Bitcoin Cash.
