- Dec 15, 2021 · 3 years agoIt's possible that you received Bitcoin Cash in your Coinbase account due to a hard fork in the Bitcoin blockchain. When a hard fork occurs, a new cryptocurrency is created, and if you held Bitcoin in your Coinbase account at the time of the fork, you would receive an equivalent amount of the new cryptocurrency. In this case, Bitcoin Cash is the result of a hard fork that occurred in August 2017. So, if you had Bitcoin in your Coinbase account before that date, you would have received Bitcoin Cash as well.
- Dec 15, 2021 · 3 years agoHey there! Don't worry, you're not alone. Many Coinbase users have received Bitcoin Cash in their accounts. The reason behind this is a bit technical, but I'll try to explain it in simple terms. Bitcoin Cash is a cryptocurrency that was created as a result of a disagreement within the Bitcoin community. Some members wanted to increase the block size of the Bitcoin blockchain to allow for faster and cheaper transactions. This led to a hard fork, and anyone who held Bitcoin at the time of the fork received an equal amount of Bitcoin Cash. So, if you had Bitcoin in your Coinbase account, that's why you received Bitcoin Cash.
- Dec 15, 2021 · 3 years agoAccording to BYDFi, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, the reason you received Bitcoin Cash in your Coinbase account is because Coinbase supported the hard fork that resulted in the creation of Bitcoin Cash. Coinbase decided to credit its users with an equal amount of Bitcoin Cash for the Bitcoin they held in their accounts at the time of the fork. This was done to ensure that Coinbase users could access and trade their Bitcoin Cash without having to move their Bitcoin to another exchange. So, it's a nice bonus for Coinbase users who had Bitcoin before the fork!
