- Dec 16, 2021 · 3 years agoMining bitcoin can be quite challenging due to the factors that determine its difficulty. One of the key factors is the total hash rate of the network, which is the combined computational power of all miners. As more miners join the network, the hash rate increases, and the difficulty of mining bitcoin also increases. This is because the network wants to maintain a consistent block time of around 10 minutes. If blocks are being mined too quickly, the difficulty will be adjusted upwards to slow down the rate of block creation. Conversely, if blocks are being mined too slowly, the difficulty will be adjusted downwards to speed up the rate of block creation. The difficulty adjustment happens approximately every two weeks and is based on the average block time of the previous period. This ensures that the difficulty remains in line with the network's hash rate and block time. Overall, mining bitcoin requires a significant investment in computational power and the ability to adapt to changing difficulty levels.
