Can you explain whether the number of bitcoins is finite or not? I've heard conflicting information and I'm curious to know the truth.

- Dec 17, 2021 · 3 years agoYes, the number of bitcoins is indeed finite. According to the Bitcoin protocol, there will only ever be 21 million bitcoins in existence. This limit is hard-coded into the system and cannot be changed. As of now, around 18.5 million bitcoins have been mined, leaving approximately 2.5 million yet to be mined. Once all 21 million bitcoins have been mined, no new bitcoins will be created. This scarcity is one of the factors that contribute to the value of bitcoin.
- Dec 17, 2021 · 3 years agoAbsolutely! The number of bitcoins is limited to 21 million. This is a key feature of the Bitcoin network and is designed to ensure scarcity and prevent inflation. As more bitcoins are mined, the rate at which new bitcoins are created decreases over time. This process is known as halving and occurs approximately every four years. So, while the supply of bitcoins is finite, the rate at which they are introduced into circulation gradually decreases, making it more difficult and resource-intensive to mine new bitcoins.
- Dec 17, 2021 · 3 years agoIndeed, the number of bitcoins is finite. This is a fundamental aspect of Bitcoin's design. The total supply of bitcoins is capped at 21 million, and this limit cannot be exceeded. The finite supply is one of the reasons why bitcoin is often considered a store of value, similar to gold. As the demand for bitcoin increases, and the supply remains fixed, the value of each bitcoin may increase over time. This scarcity has made bitcoin an attractive investment for many people.
