- Dec 16, 2021 · 3 years agoNo, the position value on BitMEX cannot be negative. The position value represents the value of the position in the base currency. If the position value goes below zero, it would mean that the trader owes more than they have in their account, which is not possible on BitMEX. Traders are required to maintain sufficient margin to cover their positions.

When the position value goes below zero, it means that the trader has a short position and owes more than they have in their account. This can happen when the market moves against the trader's position. Traders should be aware of the risks involved in short selling and manage their positions accordingly.

BitMEX is known for its robust risk management system, which prevents traders from taking on positions that exceed their account balance. This ensures that the position value remains positive and prevents traders from incurring losses beyond their initial investment.

This allows traders to take advantage of short selling opportunities and profit from market downturns.
